Queen's View

Big Tree Country and Big County are two nicknames of rich Perthshire. The "fairest portion of the northern kingdom” (Walter Scott) is overflowing with natural beauty, ancient monuments and pretty villages.

Highland Perthshire, north of Comrie and Blairgowrie and centred on the town of Perth, offers some of the finest scenery in the UK.

Angus, more to the east has miles of unspoiled landscapes stretching as far as the eye can see.

From the beautiful coast and charming towns and villages (Arbroath, Brechin, Carnoustie, Forfar, Kirriemuir, Monifieth and Montrose) to the freedom of the hills and glens.

Although the featured attractions, sites and landmarks are always chosen by me, I have made a serious effort to differentiate 4 levels:

  • (***) This is, for whatever reason, a very personal favourite! Will definitely be on my itinerary! Could possibly be disappointing for someone else though.
  • (**)   A major must-see tourist attraction that you can find in many a brochure.
  • (*)     Worth seeing and possibly interesting if you happen to be in the vicinity.
  • (-)     A hefty dollop of imagination is a must, but it might be interesting if you know the background.
