Description:

Crannogs are a type of ancient loch-dwelling found throughout Scotland and Ireland, built as individual homes to accommodate extended families.

Rock was piled onto the loch bed to make an island on which to build a stone house. Today the crannogs appear as tree-covered islands or remain hidden as submerged stony mounds. Several hundred have been discovered so far in Scotland.

Walk in the footsteps of the original crannog dwellers and immerse yourself in village life with original artefacts; demonstrations of textiles, cooking and ancient crafts and technologies; paddle into prehistory in one of our replica log boats and take in the atmosphere inside the crannog roundhouse.
