Description:

Although it is the walled garden of Edzell that is primarily mentioned in the tourist brochures and hence receives the most attention, the castle itself has an attraction all its own. The Edzell estate once belonged to the Stirlings, whose Norman stronghold is still visible. The Lindsay, Earls of Crawford, acquired it by marriage in 1358 and, through the ages, turned the castle into a rather comfortable home. The garden was the life’s work of David Lindsay in the early 17th century. Visitors of Edzell were Mary, Queen of Scots who paid a visit in 1562 and King James VI.
