Pennan is a very special village on the northern coast of Aberdeenshire. Idyllic to enjoy in summer and winter, with waves crashing onto the pebble beach, alike. With the dramatic cliff backdrop, quaint cottages, and sparkling blue water, it’s little surprise that Pennan is renowned as the ‘Jewel of the Morayshire coast’.
There is an attractive harbour and, as mentioned before, a pebble beach which, although less than perfect for the building of sandcastles, is ideal for watching dolphins and grey seals.
Interestingly enough though for many people visiting this village, Pennan most important claim to fame is not so much the harbour or the beach but the very traditional red telephone box which was granted 'listed building' status after it was used as the backdrop to Bill Forsyth’s movie blockbuster, Local Hero.
