Peebles

Peebles is a busy (but not too busy) picture-perfect small town with an attractive 'difference'. It straddles the glorious River Tweed and is nestled amongst the rolling Border hills in an area of outstanding natural beauty. It feels good to stroll along the High Street, to meander in and about the alleyways and medieval closes and to enjoy fine walks along the River Tweed. It does not surprise me that Peebles has been named as the Top Independent Retailing Town in Scotland (and number two in the UK as a whole) for its wide range of independent shops and tourist amenities. The town could very well be entitled the most picturesque and historic towns in the south of Scotland. It has my vote!
