On or near Long Distance Walking Trail: Borders Abbeys Way
It's always a joy to walk around stately Kelso. The largest cobbled town square in Scotland in the centre overlooked by elegant Georgian and Victorian buildings is a pleasant surprise. This sort of centre square is more in the style common in northern France and the Low Countries but rare in Scotland. There's a rich variety of shops and if you're looking for a good meal, Kelso will not let you down! You will be spoilt for choice. Shop first? Visit the Abbey first, have a drink somewhere or just a walk along the river Tweed. This is a great base for anyone wanting to explore the Borders. Highly recommended!
