Description:

The John Muir Way is a 10-stage, easy walk on well-defined paths with no special challenges, ranging from grass to gravel and tarmac. Most of the route is fairly flat with gentle gradients and a few hill climbs. Starting in Helensburgh, it passes through the stunning scenery of Loch Lomond, then follows two famous canals past the Roman Antonine Wall, Linlithgow Palace, Blackness Castle, and the Forth Bridges before reaching Edinburgh. The walk ends in Dunbar, home to a ruined castle and John Muir’s birthplace. From Dunbar, a special ‘John Muir Link’ leads 16 km to Cocksburnpath, where you might join the Southern Upland Way heading west or the Berwickshire Coastal Path heading south.
