Description:

This enormous military base is surrounded by nearly 1.6 km of massive walls. It offers a glimpse into the life of a Redcoat in a garrison fortress built between 1748 and 1769, which has changed little in over 250 years of active service. Designed by Lieutenant-General William Skinner and constructed by the Adam family of architects, Fort George took 22 years to complete, by which time the Jacobite threat had faded. Visitors can explore defenses bristling with cannon, historic barrack rooms, an impressive collection of weapons, and the tranquil Regimental Chapel, home to many old battle flags.
