Glen Tanar National Nature Reserve ***
Region: Aberdeen(shire) & Moray
Glen Tanar is set in the glorious Cairngorms National Park and provides the perfect base for exploring the outdoors.
The Glen provides a great opportunity to explore Scotland's classic Caledonian pine forest. A darting red squirrel or an acrobatic Scottish crossbill are just some of the creatures you are likely to see as you wander through the ancient trees or, from the banks of the rushing river, you may catch a glimpse of the silvery flash of a salmon powering upstream. Beyond the trees, birds of prey patrol the managed moorlands and you could catch a sight of hen harrier, merlin, osprey or even a golden eagle.
