Description:

In 1426, a battle took place between Clan Gunn and their rivals, Clan Keith and Clan Mackay. Little is known about the fight itself, but it’s believed Clan Gunn suffered a heavy defeat. Angus Dow Mackay, chief of the Mackays, was brought before King James I in Inverness for offenses against the clan. Angus submitted to the King’s mercy, offering his son Neil as a pledge of future obedience. The King accepted and sent Neil to Bass Rock. The battle occurred about 2 km west of Harpsdale, near Achardale Farm.
