Distance: 232 km Grade: 3 (Moderate)
Description:
This long-distance walking route is far more than a challenge to complete; it’s an adventure waiting to be embraced. The Lakeland Way was created by Richard Jennings, who hails from the Peak District. A lifelong lover of long-distance walking, Richard moved to Cumbria and quickly fell in love with its spectacular scenery and rich history. He created the route to share that passion with others.
The un-waymarked trail requires a good level of mountain fitness, self-reliance, and solid navigation skills.
The walk begins and ends in the historic fishing village of Ravenglass on the west coast. Steeped in history, Ravenglass reflects much of what awaits along the route. Follow old coach and droving roads, corpse routes, and even Roman footpaths, passing close to important historical sites while immersing yourself in the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
The route is suitable for families, walking groups, and dogs—just remember to keep dogs on leads when near livestock.
Do check out Richard's site. There you'll find a wealth of information on accommodation, the different stages, options etc., etc. Also read the section on the downloads (important!!)
