The mossy blanket at the top hides plenty of secrets, from dotterel nesting in summer to the snowy white plumage of winter ptarmigan. The slopes are home to a rare mix of plants tough enough for the harsh environment. On still days in late October, the air echoes with the roaring of red deer stags in rut.
