South of Strathy Point near Kinbrace, about 2 km west of Loch Ruathair, a fierce battle broke out in 1506 between Clan Gunn and the Sinclairs. The Sinclairs were beaten and driven up to the summit of Ben Griam More. The next day, Clan MacKay arrived, putting the Sinclairs in even deeper trouble. Nearly wiped out, they were forced to flee for their lives. Today, there’s no trace of the clash, but the stunning scenery leaves plenty for the imagination.
