Description:

Cardoness Castle, once the fortified home of the McCullochs, stands proudly on an elevated spot with sweeping views of the countryside near Gatehouse of Fleet. It’s impossible to miss when driving along the A75 between Dumfries and Stranraer. Built around 1475 by James MacCulloch, it remained a MacCulloch stronghold for over 200 years. The name “Cardoness” likely comes from another ancient family who may have owned the land before the MacCullochs.
