Description:

The Abbey was established by monks invited by King David I. Initially based in Selkirk, they moved to Kelso in 1128 to be nearer to David’s new castle at Roxburgh. In 1545, the Earl of Hertford’s forces stormed, looted, and destroyed the Abbey, leaving only fragments of the once-vast monastery. Still, what remains of the church stands as one of medieval Scotland’s most stunning architectural feats.
