Description:
Perched on a hill between the River Tweed and River Teviot, little remains of this once strategically placed castle. Built in the 1120s by King David I, it changed hands over ten times in the next 450 years. The Scots razed it in 1460 after more than a century of English control. In 1547, the English turned the ruins into an artillery fort, but by 1551 it was back in Scottish hands and demolished as part of a peace treaty between England and France.
