Description:

A 5-stage unmarked walk from Lochinver with an overall difficulty grading of 3 (Moderate) to Tongue. The trail was developed by trail blazer 'par excellence" Cameron McNeish and is mostly on paths and tracks with some off-trail walking and a few miles on minor tarmac roads. It potentially takes in hills like Suilven, Canisp, Ben More Assynt, Arkle and Foinaven, Ben Hope and Ben Loyal but you really don't have to "do" the summits....if you don't want to. This is a fine long distance route, but beware: No markings and running through wild and rugged terrain for much of the distance.

A tent is a must. There are long sections without accommodation. Take 1:25 maps with you (laminated!) as, on this trail, it is very easy to get completely lost! Or.......go digital! (sometimes no signal though!) The Sutherland Trail links up with the Cape Wrath Trail and the Scottish National Trail at Inchnadamph.

Stages:

  1. Lochinver - Inchnadamph 22 km (Moderate)
  2. Inchnadamph - Kylesku 19 km (Moderate)
  3. Kylesku - Lone 19 km (Moderate)
