River Ayr Way

A 3-stage 65 km walk with a difficulty grading of 1 (Easy), mostly on well defined paths, with no special difficulties.

The River Ayr Way offers an easy walk through wild moorland rich in natural and industrial history.

The route passes through one of the most interesting river valleys in Southern Scotland and can be walked over a weekend or a long weekend. The area is steeped in history with links to many famous Scottish figures including Robert Burns and William Wallace.

The final section leads through open farmland and estates before reaching the historic county town of Ayr and connecting with the Ayrshire Coastal Path.

  2. Sorn - Stair 18,25 km (Grade:1-Easy)
  3. Stair - Ayr 19,5 km (Grade:1-Easy)

Heritage Path:

From Muirkirk you might take the old Drove Road (32 km) to Wanlockhead and connect with the Southern Upland Way at NS873128 (GPS: 55.396619,-3.780209).
