Description:

This is a short but slightly more challenging 45 km walk. The West Island Way takes you across the length and breadth of the Isle of Bute, passing through a variety of landscapes—rocky headlands, seashores, sandy beaches, moorland, farmland, and forests—offering an ever-changing view of the island.

The trail is mostly well waymarked and generally suitable for less experienced walkers, though some sections can be rough or boggy underfoot. Afterwards, you could take the ferry from Rothesay to link up with the Ayrshire Coastal Path.

Stages:

  1. Kilchattan Bay Circular 8 km (Slightly harder)
  2. Kilchattan Bay - Port Bannatyne 18,5 km (Slightly harder)
  3. Port Bannatyne - Rhubodach 14 km (Moderate)
  4. Rhubodach - Rothesay 8,5 km (Moderate)
