Rob Roy's Grave **

Description:

Fifteen km north of Callander, in the village of Balquhidder, there's a churchyard with supposedly Rob Roy's grave. Supposedly, because there is still no real certainty whether Rob, his wife and 2 sons are actually buried there. It's a beautiful spot though in a deep, winding glen. The uncompromising later epitaph reads 'MacGregor despite them'. This harks back to the events relating to the battle of Glenfruin in 1603 when the king was so enraged with the almost endemic bloodshed between the different clans that the name of MacGregor was proscribed.
