Description:

Sitting on top of a sandstone outcrop overhanging the Thornton ravine, Innerwick Castle dates from the 14th, 15th and 16th century.

It was a keep with an outer courtyard wall, with a gradual infill of additional buildings as time went on.

When the first castle was built in the mid 1300's it was to accommodate the Stewarts. In 1398 it passed to the Hamiltons. In 1548 the castle was captured and destroyed by Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset.
