Description:

Perched on a sandstone outcrop above the Thornton ravine, Innerwick Castle dates back to the 14th, 15th, and 16th centuries. Originally a keep with an outer courtyard wall, it gradually gained additional buildings over time. Built in the mid-1300s to house the Stewarts, it passed to the Hamiltons in 1398. In 1548, Edward Seymour, 1st Duke of Somerset, captured and destroyed the castle.
