Description:

The Arran Coastal Way is a superb seven‑stage circular route that showcases the island’s wild beauty and varied terrain. Although sometimes described as suitable for walkers of average fitness, it’s important to know that several sections are pathless and require confident navigation. Expect stretches of scree, minor scrambling, and terrain where solid map‑reading skills are essential.

As one of Scotland’s official Great Trails, the ACW begins and ends in Brodick, tracing the island’s coastline through an ever‑changing landscape. The route leads you around the dramatic northern mountains near Lochranza, down to the quieter southern shores around Lagg and Kilmory, before looping back north toward Brodick.

Along the way you’ll experience everything from tidal beaches and forest tracks to rolling hills and rugged headlands. The views are spectacular throughout — eastward across the Firth of Clyde and westward toward the Kintyre peninsula — making this challenging walk an unforgettable journey around “Scotland in miniature.” The Arran Coastal Way provides an opportunity to experience the abundant archaeology, history and wildlife of this magical island, which dates back as far as the Stone Age. This trail is a “must-do”! Highly recommended!
