Description:
Bruce’s Stone is a large granite boulder perched on a hill on the north side of Loch Trool, marking Robert the Bruce’s victory in 1307. Legend says this is where Bruce directed the ambush on the opposite shore. What makes it remarkable isn’t just the battlefield, but the blend of stunning scenery and historic significance. Using a small detachment to lure the English onto the southern shore, Bruce hid most of his men along the slopes above. Forced to dismount and move in single file, the English were met with a deadly rain of heavy boulders. This decisive moment turned the tide for Bruce, leading to more victories against his foes, culminating in the Battle of Bannockburn.
