Castle Roy *

Description:

Castle Roy is an 11th century fortress built by the Red Comyn Lords of Badenoch on a small glacial mound to the north of the modern village of Nethy Bridge. In 1420 the whole area came under the stewardship of the Clan Grant who are still the clan of this area today. It is a very simple castle and one of the oldest castle ruins in Scotland.

Although in no way impressive, ‘Caisteal Ruadh’ is (in a way) picturesque as the crumbling walls standing on a motte, overgrown with ivy.
