<<<<<     >>>>>

Arrochar is located at the head of Loch Long and is popular with mountaineers due to its excellent road and rail links and close proximity to the Arrochar Alps.

This is an area of outstanding natural beauty with some of the best scenery in Scotland. It provides a great base to explore Loch Lomond and the Southern Highlands. Arrochar is the clan seat of the MacFarlanes. Eventually their lands were sold to the Colquhouns. The clan home known as Invereach was renamed Arrochar House and now stands as The Claymore Hotel. This was the first building to be constructed in the Village.

Although the vast majority of its small population live practically at sea level, the area is framed by dramatic mountain scenery on all sides and borders on both the largest freshwater loch in Britain and an extended fjord-like sea loch. Together with Succoth and Tarbet it lies at one of those vital cross roads in Scotland where the routes to the west and the north divide. Arrochar is also the jump off point of the Mary, Queen of Scots Way.
