My holiday plans for 2025? Scotland of course!
This time however not another solo trip, although that was certainly a wonderful experience in itself. This time I’ll be joined by a very dear friend and, as she has never been to Scotland and is hesitant about driving in the UK, I’ll be the driver, a friend, a companion and tour guide all rolled into one.
The initial logistics may be somewhat tricky as the lady lives in northern Spain close to Santiago de Compostella and now has to figure out how she’s going to organize it all, but once the ferry leaves port we can look forward to an interesting 2-3 weeks road trip with many new sights and discoveries on the horizon.
Interesting particularly because, as I am so used to doing this sort of thing on my own or with a male friend. A woman’s perspective can be quite different and enlightening.
I’m curious how she will experience it all.
When I asked her where she wants to go and what she wants to see her immediate response was “Edinburg”! This instant reaction caught me by surprise, but I find it also intriguing.
Personally I have never been someone for major cities or museums for that matter. I’m much more into wide open spaces, the quietude of forest paths and the sheer beauty of nature.
Yes, I’ve been to Edinburgh many times but only to catch the bus or train or for a business appointment. Might be an interesting ‘learning curve’! Looking forward to it!
Fortunately she loves nature as well and is very keen on seeing the Low- and Highlands and all the wonderful vistas those regions have to offer.
I therefore compiled an ‘initial’ list of places to visit. Saughtree in Liddesdale and Hermitage Castle, Tweedsmuir, Stirling, The Cairngorms with Pitlochry and Ballater, Loch Ness, Skye (maybe), Applecross, Kinlochewe, Lochinver, Kylesku, Altnaharra, Inverness, Rosslin Chapel, Melrose Abbey.
This listing is very much ‘initial’ as it’s still very early days. Nevertheless it’s simply fun to try and ‘compose’ an itinerary.
